Kura Retreat

Fifty-two villas stepped into a working rice terrace.

Kura sits on a ridge of active subak terraces, and the master plan's first rule was that no villa would interrupt the water's path. Buildings step down the contour lines in teak and volcanic stone, roofed in alang-alang thatch cut and bound by village crews from the valley.

The spa is the project's quiet centre: a sequence of spring-fed pools descending through a bamboo grove, treatment pavilions open on two sides, and no recorded sound anywhere — only the irrigation channels the site has carried for two hundred years.
